After hearing Lex's story on a podcast recently, I knew I needed to interview her. She struggled with binge eating disorder for 7 years, and is incredibly real and raw about her recovery. Her story deeply resonated with me and I'm excited to share her interview with you!

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

Hi, I'm Lex from @restoring_radiance! I live in Richmond, VA with my husband (we got married February of last year) and I'm pregnant with our first baby (due June 4)! Some of my favorite things include: soaking up sunshine, baking, enjoying good wine, reading, and cooking with my husband. My favorite foods are probably pb&j's, pizza, and anything Mediterranean. I struggled with a binge eating disorder for seven years, and now (being fully recovered) I'm passionate about helping others find food freedom!

What was the inspiration behind Restoring Radiance?

I started Instagram about 5-6 years ago as a personal food and exercise journal. I was in the height of an eating disorder, and it was my way to hold myself accountable. I've been through many phases since then of struggling, to becoming obsessed with healthy eating, to finally finding a place of food freedom and true joy! I've stuck with Instagram all this time, and after lots of time, consistency, and effort, it's turned into what it is today and I'm so grateful.

What advice do you have for someone who wants to start their own brand/business?

My personal experience started very organically. I never had any intention of having my own brand/business. For someone who wants to start, I'd say just go for it! Be passionate, be yourself, and don't compare yourself to others or try to be like anyone. Be unapologetically you and just go for it! I always say three important things for social media are: quality content, consistency, and engagement with others who do what you do!

What do you love most about your job?

What I love most is the connections I've made, the relationships that have been built, and the amazing people I've encountered. Social media can be tricky and I definitely have a love/hate relationship with it. However, I wouldn't replace what I do, because I've truly been blessed with so many wonderful relationships, people, and opportunities.

What do you love most about yourself?

This is a fun question for sure, and I think we should all ask ourself this more often. At the end of the day, I'm really proud of myself for being able to run my own business and work from home. It's never something I thought would happen, but something I always desired! Actually growing up, I used to tell my parents I wanted to be a mom when I grew up. Looks like I'm heading in the right direction!

Take us through a day in the life of Lex. We want all the deets!

A day in the life of Lex looks different EVERY SINGLE DAY. Trying to be more organized with this, but life isn't perfect so it always looks different. One thing I pretty much always do is have my solid morning routine. I love waking up, drinking a big glass of water, and brewing some delicious local coffee. I typically just drink it with organic 1/2 and 1/2 and I bring it to our kitchen table with my journal and either my Bible or a study on the Bible. This is my favorite time of day. It's quiet, it's a new day, and it's so refreshing. I love to spend some time reading and journaling while I enjoy my beloved coffee. Then, I either go to pure barre, on a walk, or take a rest day and get ready for the day. I always make sure to get ready/dressed, because I swear I'm so much more productive this way! The rest of the day is always different, whether that's working on some things/recipes for Instagram, catching up on emails, having meetings with friends or local companies, working on some secret stuff coming up, and studying to be an intuitive eating counselor. The end of the day typically ends with cooking with my husband and enjoying a nice dinner. Then we usually snuggle up on the couch and watch a show or a movie! I also always turn my phone on airplane mode around 7:30-8pm every night and don't turn it back on until about 7-8am the next morning. This ensures that I get a social media/phone break and that I get more present time with my husband!

What's on the horizon for you in 2018?

There are A LOT of things that are on the horizon for 2018. A few things I've been working on that I haven't shared yet so be on the lookout :) My biggest thing of course is that Thomas & I are having a baby boy. So the biggest life change will be becoming parents and raising a child. We are so excited and thankful! Another thing, I'm working on becoming an Intuitive Eating Counselor and will hopefully be taking clients on after baby is born!

And lastly, what makes you feel like a kween?

I feel like I could put so many things there, but recently my favorite thing that makes me feel like a kween is a bubble bath with a book, candle, and a glass of wine! (Haven't been doing the wine as much because of baby, but can't wait to incorporate it back into rotation more once he's born!) I find it to be so relaxing, so soothing, and it just makes my heart incredibly happy!
